Dr. Jim Logan

Dr. Jim Logan is board certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine with specialty certification in Aerospace Medicine. During his twenty-two year career at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston he was personal physician to the astronauts, their families, NASA pilots and test pilots as well as senior Johnson Space Center management. He was a senior member of the Aerospace Medical Board and Chair of NASA's Dive Medial Board. Dr. Logan held numerous positions at NASA including Chief, Flight Medicine; Chief, Medical Operation; and Chief, Medical Informatics and Health Care Systems. In addition to his clinical duties as senior flight surgeon in the Clinical Services Branch, he served as Mission Control Surgeon, Crew Surgeon and/or Deputy Surgeon for numerous space shuttle missions.

Dr. Logan applied his extensive knowledge of disease prevention, stress management, exercise physiology, nutrition, psychology, interpersonal relations, mission operations and crew resource management to optimize personal performance and health status of NASA's astronauts and the entire flight control team while minimizing the effects of aging and chronic disease.

A founding board member of the American Telemedicine Association, Dr. Logan served as NASA project manager for the initial design of a telemedicine-enabled inflight health care delivery system for long duration space flight. He is a past provost of International Space University in Strasbourg, France and has worked extensively as a consultant for the Rand Corporation, Department of Defense and numerous domestic and international health care systems.

After leaving NASA in 2012 he completed a medical fellowship in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina.

A lifetime recipient of NASA's Distinguished Speaker Award, his lecture activities have taken him to many countries around the world and he has been featured on PBS, Discovery Channel and the History Channel. He is also the co-founder of the Space Enterprise Institute, a non-profit educational foundation.
