Janel Maitland

A serial entrepreneur with a 20-year career in corporate and sales management prior to launching her first company, Janel is passionate about teaching groups (middle and high school, college, parents, and business) why and how to create a positive personal brand online.

A personal experience with public social media led her to co-found her first company, Frienedy, which launched in April of 2015. Janel's belief in the value of managing personal privacy in today's digital age has driven the design and development of the Frienedy platform. As a parent, she also wanted a platform where all parents would be able to onboard their own children to social media privately and in a safe place. Based on her work to build Frienedy, she is frequently requested to speak to school groups, clubs, organizations, moms and/or parent groups, and even businesses about the power and consequences of positive digital citizenship.

She is also the founder of Electronic Parenting, a blog recently recognized as a top parenting blog by PR Newswire and dedicated to providing information to help this first generation of parents navigate successfully through their children's digital social worlds.

Since then, she has also partnered with a former Special Agent for the NCIS, Heather Ryan, to co-found Get Safe Academy, a company dedicated to online training courses, books, and materials to promote safety (both online and off), self defense, and social media 101 savvy for parents.
